History

Faculty of Electrical Engineering is one of the first four faculties to be established at University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang in 1975. The first Dean of the faculty was Dr. Tang Thien Tu. Having undergone 40 years of development from the establishment, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has overcome many obstacles to fulfill requirements of the cause of national construction and defense.

The primary mission of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is to train the labor force in the fields of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Automation & Control Engineering for the Central Coast - Highlands in particular, and for the whole country in general. Nowadays, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has become a reputable center of training, scientific research, and technology transfer. Take a look back at the 40-year-long journey, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has made strong steps of development which can be demonstrated through the following aspects:

1. Academic Staff

In the early days of establishment, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering had only 10 faculty members. Up to now, the Faculty’s academic staff has grown both in quantity and quality, being capable of meeting the demands of training, scientific research, technology transfer, and cooperation. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering currently has a strong academic staff of 61 members, including 1 professor, 5 associate professors, 25 lecturers holding PhD degree, 20 lecturers holding Master’s degree, and 10 engineers. Many of the faculty members had been trained and obtained their degree from universities in developed countries such as France, Russia, German, Italy, Australia, Netherland, Ukraine, Japan, Korea, etc. Eight faculty members are currently pursuing their PhD degree abroad.

2. Training and Quality Assurance

At the beginning, due to special requirements and economic characteristics of the Central Coast - Highlands, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering had only an undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering. Through some phases, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has adjusted the training program and the contents of subjects in accordance with the development of science and technology and the requirements of practical productions. Currently, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has 2 training programs at undergraduate level, one in Electrical-Electronics Engineering and the other in Automation & Control Engineering. To incline training quality, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has also organized the high-quality-classes for both of these programs. As for the postgraduate program, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has 2 branches of training which are Electrical Engineering and Automation and Control Engineering. As for the training scale, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering annually admits about 400 full-time undegraduate students, over 50 Master students and 3 PhD students.

Through 40 years, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has trained about 1000 engineers, hundreds of Masters, and 8 Doctors of Philosophy. The alumnus graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering are fully qualified in terms of ability, knowledge, and skills to approach to modern technology and highly recognized by institutions using labor force. Many alumnus have been in charge of important positions in  universities and enterprises.

Together with the training task, the task of quality assurance is also properly concerned. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering is one of the two first departments in DUT - UD conducting the self-evaluation of training program followed the AUN standards (ASEAN University Network).

3. Facility

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering owns modern and adequate facilities to serve the tasks of education and scientific research. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering has established a Center of Laboratories based on merging the laboratories of the Divisions and the electrical workshop for efficiently managing and serving the students doing experiments. The Center of Laboratories consists of many laboratories equipped with modern equipments, an electrical workshop, and a practical outdoor site. In addition, The Faculty of Electrical Engineering also has a Smart-Grids Laboratory which was built by the funds raised by Ministry of Education and Training. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering has received support in equipping experimental equipments from companies like The Central Power Corporation, Power Transmission Company 2, Tuan An Corporation, Toshiba Company, ATS/SEL Company, CPC-IT Company, Texas Instruments Corporation, Schneider Corporation, etc.
